Hurricane Helene brought devastation. The storm surge, persistent wind and rain, and unimaginable flooding devastated families, businesses, and entire towns. The death toll is over 100 now and will surely and tragically rise.
It will be some time before we know the full extent of the devastation, but there are ways that you and I can help:
PRAY – Prayer is absolutely the most important and powerful thing we can do. Pray for those who are grieving over loved ones who died, for those whose have not yet heard from missing family members, for those who lost homes and/or businesses, for those working hard to re-establish basic services, for those who are working to provide basic essentials in the affected areas, and for churches and believers to be moved to compassion and action. Never underestimate the power of taking our concerns to the throne of grace.
GIVE – There are many options available to give to help with vast needs. Consider making a gift of any amount to agencies that not only meet physical needs but also minister to spiritual needs. You also want to find an agency that does not take a large percentage of your gift for administrative fees. Here are some options that I have come to trust:
Send Relief (North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention) – https://www.sendrelief.org/
Mission Georgia (Georgia Baptist Mission Board) – https://missiongeorgia.org/
Samaritan’s Purse – https://www.samaritanspurse.org/
SERVE – There are many ways you may choose to serve. Keep you eyes and ears open for opportunities that fit your skills and schedule. If you’re ready to help today, Samaritan’s Purse may be the best option. Here is their site with options for serving: https://spvolunteer.org
This is just a short list of options, but the only option we should not choose is to do nothing.
