Your Obituary…
In an interview on CBS This Morning this morning, Charlie Rose spoke to renowned film director George Lucas. Being a fan of the Stars Wars and Indiana Jones movies, I stopped to listen to the interchange. One question Rose asked Lucas sent me scrambling for my iPhone to take notes. He asked: “What do you want the Continue reading

Jonah: A Story of Mercy (Chapter One)
This is the first chapter in the yet to be published, “Jonah: A Story of Mercy.” It is based on the biblical story of Jonah with additions intended to show the Old Testament prophet as a real man who faced real struggles. The additions are not intended to replace what is written in Scripture; they Continue reading

The Singing Pearl
In a beautiful kingdom long ago, there lived a very happy king. The king had a large castle, many fine horses, lovely gardens in which to walk. He wore a long purple robe trimmed in gold and white. It was the same robe passed down to him by his father who received it from his Continue reading

Don’t Fear the Rainbow?
I’ve been seeing lots of rainbows in the last couple of days. No, not the real ones in the sky, but images of rainbows popping up all through the media in the wake of the recent Supreme Court ruling that will allow same-sex couples to legally marry in the all 50 states. The rainbow has Continue reading

A Time to Weep
I have started to write about the shooting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC, numerous times. I type a paragraph or two, and I stop and delete it all. Day 4 … And What a Day!
Of all the good things I could say about today, the best is reflected in this picture. Our bus driver Julio prayed to receive Jesus today. Amy Ferman had been burdened over his spiritual state since we got here. Through prayer and intentional conversation, this morning he became a brother in Christ! Continue reading

Day 3 on the Site – Lots of Smiling Faces and Concrete
I’m still using my iPhone, so brevity is essential. The short story is that it was a good and tiring day. After some tasty omelette scooped by Mallory Granuiz, we returned to the site but did a brief Bibke School rather than working on the water house. We told two Bible stories with all the Continue reading

Day 2 on the Site
We had another successful day on site yesterday as we continued to lay block on the water house. We actually used up all our block and had to order more. The progress has been remarkable, plus we had some welcome cloud cover in the morning. Those who were doing the eyeglasses ministry were really blessed Continue reading

Dominican Republic Mission Trip – 1st Day on the Site
Today was hot but good. We were able to lay 270 of the 550 block on the new water house in Gaspar Hernandez and give over 30 pairs of glasses to people in the community with decreased vision. We’ll be back at it in the morning. It’s been a great time thus far. We’re doing Continue reading
