Image1 Peter 3:15 tells us, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” Our attitude is important when we tell others about our faith. It should never be done in a mean-spirited, angry way. Speaking the truth in love is important if we want to gain a hearing.

I’ve jokingly asked our members not to see witnessing as pounding someone on the head with 20 pound King James Bible. It was a joke, but evidently a woman in North Carolina took it seriously. A WNCT channel 9 web story told of an even that took place in Kings Mountain.

“A western North Carolina woman is accused of beating another woman with a Bible. 57-year-old Evelyn Mills Moore of Kings Mountain was arrested and charged with assault inflicting serious injury. An arrest warrant detailed how Moore used her fists and a Bible to strike the other woman.”

Okay, I’m pretty sure she wasn’t witnessing to the other lady and I have no confirmation that it was a 20 pound Bible that Ms. Moore used. But what are the odds that someone would be charged with beating another person with a Bible?!

God’s Word is plenty powerful on its own; it doesn’t need a wind-up and follow-through.
